ABOUT THE SINGER SONG WRITER
When Lawrence Beamen steps onto the stage, his powerful voice gives no indication of one whose musical career began as a young boy in a small Mississippi church.
“I was raised in a conservative Seventh Day Adventist Church that did not allow music with rhythm or beat,” Lawrence recalls. It frustrated him, making him feel that he was missing out. But things began to change when he moved to California with his family at the age of 13, and was able to access new opportunities and pursue classical music training from top teachers.
What Lawrence came to realize is that the limitations of those earlier years required him to cultivate discipline and creativity in his music, and focus on the message and words of a song. He was able to develop perfect pitch, a talent that has served him well as a bass baritone, and has cultivated tremendous skill in songwriting, arranging, and producing.
Lawrence sang for civil rights icon Rosa Parks at the age of 16, and was later summoned by the Pope to sing at The Vatican. “I’ve been able to sing for some of the most influential people in recent history,” Lawrence says. “It’s humbling and thrilling - I feel so grateful to be on this journey.”
